136 ABRAHAM B. GOOSSEN OBITUARY

Abraham B. Goossen was born October 23, 1905 to Franz M. and Susanna (Duerksen) Goossen in Marion County, Kansas and joined the presence of His Lord on January 25, 1986, after a brief stay at the Hadley Regional Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Abe attended a country school for grades 1-8 and attended Hillsboro Bible Academy in 1921-1922.

Preceding him in death are his parents, four brothers: William, John, Heinrich and Cornelius and one adopted sister, Anna (Hiebert) Schmidt. His surviving brothers are Frank Goossen of Hesston, Kansas; Alvin Goossen of Moundridge, Kansas; Ferd Goossen of Goessel, Kansas; Edward Goossen of Colby, Kansas; Walter Goossen of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and one adopted sister, Hilda (Hiebert) Ratzlaff.

At an early age, Abe realized his need of salvation from sin and by faith received Christ as his Savior. As an expression of his faith and trust he was baptized and joined the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church near Goessel, Kansas.

On October 4, 1931, Abe was joined in marriage to Susie Flaming, daughter of Abraham J. and Eva (Goertz) Flaming and to this union were born three children: Lois Irene, Lorena Mae and Ralph Stanley. In 1981 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Abe enjoyed the out of doors and was active in farming for 55 years until his recent retirement but still liked to help with the work. His presence was felt by his family and others as he shared with them his love and by providing for their needs. He was challenged and encouraged by scripture memorization and found it inspiring and helpful. He was active in church and served on various boards and committees. Abe and Susie were charter members of the Meadow Mennonite Church which
later became the Mingo Bible Church and was faithful and interested in Missions till the time of his death.

Surviving Abe are his wife Susie; Levi and Lois Irene Siebert, Limon, Colorado; Albert and Lorena Wahl,
Thompson, Manitoba, Canada; Ralph and Gloria Goossen, Colby, Kansas; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren and many loved ones and friends. He will be missed by those who knew him.
