  1. 8.  John Duff, of Muldavit was born about 1514 in Abercrombie, Anstruther, Scotland (son of Andrew Duff, of Muldavit and Helen Hay).

    Notes:

    John Duff of Muldavit and Craighead, obtains a charter under the great seal, from king James II. upon his father’s resignation. IV. John Duff succeeded him, who, after his father's death, got his estate confirmed to him by James III. April 13, 1482. V. Andrew Duff, his son, succeeded his father anno 15oo. He obtained from James IV. a charter of confirmation of the lands of Muldavit, Craighead, and others, 15o4. . He married Helen, grandchild of John Hay, lord of the foreft Aboyne, Enzie, and Tullybovel, afterwards built an ifle in the church of Cullen, called to this day the Duffs Isle, and mortified certain lands to the support of it. This Andrew Duff of Muldavit left two sons, Sir George, his heir ; and John, who died ummarried. VI.

    Sir George Duff, who was bred to the church, and got considerable benefices. He acquired also the lands of Castlefield, and others, as appears by a charter under the great seal, dated July 10, 1515, in the public records. Sir George Duff died 1519, and was succeeded by his eldest son, ** VII. John Duff of Muldavit, Craighead, and Castlefield; and who, by a precept from the Chancery in Scotland, was enfeoft in those lands, as heir to his father, on May 16, He left two sons

    George, afterwards Sir George; 2. John, who succeeded Sir George. VIII. Sir George Duff of Muldavit never married, but he resigned the estate in favor of his brother,
    IX. John Duff of Muldavit, brother of Sir George Duff, who upon his, Sir George’s, resignation, obtained a charter under the great aeal, from Mary Queen of Scots, of the lands of Muldavit, and others, dated 26 November 155o. This John died anno 1580, and was succeeded by
    X. John Duff of Muldavit and Craighead, who got a charter under the great feal, upon his father’s refignation, July Io, 1575, upon the lands of Muldavit, Craighead, and others. He made a resignation of those lands into the king's hands in favor of himself, upon which he got a charter under the great seal, 24 February 16 Io, who, with consent of Mrs. Agnes Gordon, a daughter of the family of Abergaldie, and John Duff, their eldest son, fold the estate to Hay of Rannas, in the year 1626, and died 1627, leaving, by the said Mrs. Agnes Gordon, a son, XI. The said John Duff of Muldavit, who got a precept from the Chancery of Scotland, proceeding upon a retour of his service, as heir to his father, 9 Nov. 1627. XII. John Duff, his only son, designed in the public archives, Mercatori Burg. &c. Burgi de Aberdeen; and had the lands of Boighall. He died in the reign of king Charles II. and left, XIII. Adam Duff, de Cluniebeg, who was fined in great sums, 1646, by the covenanters in Scotland, on account of his loyalty and attachment to the intereft of the royal family. He married Beatrix, daughter of Gordon of Cairnborrow, and had children; I. Alexander, his heir; 2. John, anceftor of the Duffs of Curiendac; 3. William, progenitor of the Duffs of Cummin and Crombie; 4. , died abroad; 5. ; 6. –, died unmarried. Adam Duff of Cluniebeg died in April 1674, and was succeeded by his eldest son, XIV. Alexander Duff of Keithmore, whose armorial bearing is recorded in the Herald Office anno 1676, according to the Lord Lyon’s certificate, which is in these words: “ I testify and make known, that the coat armour appertaining and belonging to Alexander Duff of Keithmore, lineally descended of the family of , Muldavit and Craighead, “ and approven of and confirmed by me, Sir Charles Eríkine “ of Cambo, baronet, lord Lyon King at Arms, to him, “ is of this date matriculated in my public register.” He married Helen, daughter of Alexander Grant of Allachie, brother of Archibald Grant of Bellintomb, ancestor of Sir Archibald Grant of Monymusk, Bart, by whom he had three
